Advice please on diesel fuel feed

We are installing a new engine, a Beta 60.
Beta advise installing an electric fuel pump. We have a Facet 40-288, whose specs seem good with 36" lift capacity.
Problem is that Facet instructions say a filter on the input is mandatory. They provides a dinky little 74 micron filter about 3/4" diameter by 1"long.
Seems to me that it will plug in about 14.2 seconds if we get a dose of bugs in the tank.

We are installing a nice new giant Racor twin filter downstream of the pump, so no worries about junk getting to the engine.

My thought is to install the Facet pump beside the tank and forget its filter

We could install the Facet pump downstream of the Racor, but that would eliminate the advantage of a pressurised system with no hard-to-trace air leaks inwards. Also a partially plugged Racor shows a vacuum equivalent to about 200 inches water, so the Facet pump would probably be incapable of sucking through it. Even a clean filter would be close to the Facet pump vacuum capacity.

What have others done?
