I'm not sure that would make much difference?

Assuming you have available air (say through the bilge area), I think having a efficient continuous run ventilation fan (like a "squirel cage" type with a motor intended for long-term usage), it would be better to simply interlock it with the engine. Or you can simple turn it on and run it when you're concerned with cooling the engine compartment.
