Still navigating with the Garmin GPSmap 478.
In Response To: What nav app are you using? ()

Found a factory unit a few years ago to replace our worn-out 276.

The BlueCharts still keeping us off the rocks! We didn't go quite as far into Winter Harbor this year as the track shown below but still nice to have a chartplotter. This year we were by the 7 in the wide spot by the creek to Seal Bay. It should be noted that at low water, the 7 is more like 2.7 on our depth gauge. Calypso didn't leave for North Haven until some time after we did!

As you mention, how do you hold the iPad. At least the Garmin has a marine[sic] mount by the helm. And since it's battery-powered, unlike most newer Garmins, I can take it with me in the dinghy. Or under the dodger when it rains.

I like being able to manage waypoints and tracks on the PC in MapSource and transfer same back and forth. So we can carry old tracks to guide us. Not clear whether newer Garmins even do this!

I use Navimatics US East on the iPhone when I want to check something out. It's fast and simple. When Nan gets an iPad Air, I'll inherit her old one and be able to try it in the cockpit!

Don't know why Canon doesn't have a 12v charger; I also use the small inverter only for the Canon battery.
