… at least my experience since 2004. Its just that many don't charge for it, and some do. The issue of Duty in my experience has constantly been in flux, one day you can bring boats parts in, one day you cannot. I researched this in earnest some time ago and found boat parts have ALWAYS been exempt, and was provided the document proving that from Nassau. Nevertheless, it really doesn't matter … what the law or rule is in the Bahamas for these kinds of things … it will simply depend on the mood of the officer you are dealing with that day. And if you don't like it, or you feel you are correct and they are incorrect, good luck ! Sort of like the Big Boat Rule … the bigger boat always rules. That's why I have been using Watermakers and Staniel … I just have had no issues, and no Duty cost. And quite a different story in Gerogetown. I have also found the protocol for clearing-in can be quite different in all places. And that is why I like to clear-in at Lyford Cay when heading south, or Harbour Island and Green Turtle when heading to Abaco (although I've had decent experiences at West End, but horrible experiences in Bimini).
Regardless, I have learned the best way to get stuff is to ask around to other cruisers, they always have guests coming in, and have them bring whatever it is I need. I have had stuff sent directly to them from Amazon & such prior to them departing the States. Although I should caution I've not yet tried this trick with a Honda Generator !
And yes, the Watermaker flights stop in Andros, Morgan's Bluff I believe, to clear Customs. If you are a passenger on the Watermaker flight to Staniel, Andros is where you will clear in.
Interesting to hear about the Resort at Little Bay Chris. I had heard of big plans for this. But like many plans like these, oftentimes in the Bahamas many never get off the ground and if so little happens. For instance, the project in one of your favorite anchorages at Royal Island … I like that about the Bahamas.
Have fun down there ! Cheers, John
