Once one yard gets one then the others can't compete for the bigger boats and they loose market share. Shelter Island Boat Yard here in SD is going through a three year refit to maximize their foot print. It includes a huge new lift and trailers to switch the boats onto that can move more bots into smaller spaces. Less room between boats means more boats in the yard at the same time. The yard manager was going to retire but the owners made him an "offer he couldn't refuse" to stay for three years. He told me that he didn't really want to retire anyway because he still liked his job...after 30 years.
