Deep cycle should really be defined by how many cycles the battery is rated for. Some batteries have very thin plates but perform remarkably well in deep cycling applications, the TPPL AGM batteries fall into this category. The Odyssey thin plate pure lead AGM's are factory rated at 800 cycles to 50% DOD (you will never see this in the real world) yet many thicker plate "deep cycle" 12V flooded batteries can't muster anywhere close to this even under ideal lab conditions...
When a marketing department deep cycle battery only gets 350 cycles to 50% DOD and and actual deep cycle battery gets 700-1000 cycles to 50% DOD, which one do you think is really a "deep cycle" battery.
It is the dishonesty & sleazy marketing in the battery industry that bugs me the most.
