Locally, I see wind direction the primary factor in fog.

And in fact wind direction affects nearly all aspects of weather, here. Our prevailing Southwesterly summer winds that travel over land, don't generate any appreciable fog in Penobscot Bay.

But if the summer wind is near dead south(or a little southeast), it will usually carry a haze and more likely, fog as the warm wind originates over the ocean as it drives into the bay.

It's a different story downeast of here.
