We launched a couple of weeks ago but left HW in Mattapoisett to have the Westerbeke 27A looked at. Seems to be doing just fine after three decades but JC at MBY replaced the coolant circulating pump which was leaking. (How come I didn't notice that?) Nice to see how easily coolant can be drained with absolutely no mess. First time a mechanic (or yard or shop) has asked if I wanted to be there.
Then the first day heading out to the Brownell mooring after launch the drive shaft in the old Evinrude 3.0 spun free from the crankshaft. So back to all of the threads on dinghy outboards. Power? Weight? Convenience? Decided the Yanmar 2.5 has the best ergonomics and reputation, despite being heavier than the Honda or Suzuki. It has a nice handle and can be easily carried and set down on its back and not flopped on its side like most 4-strokes. While still in break-in, it powers the old Achilles quite well.
Put the radar reflector up and the genoa on and we're ready for Maine, mid-July!
