I can't remember the last time I serviced my Lewmar ST 42, 2 speed winches but my tacking seems slow( ). Once the season starts, I don't do much(any) maintenance. I'll fix what breaks, that's about it.
Sort of how I 'serviced' my winches yesterday. More of an inspection. Once torn down(quite easy), I used the better part of a roll of paper towels to clean off as much old grease, rain water, as I could. I did check the pawls carefully, cleaned them a bit, and oiled.
Despite my abuse, they seem to be in remarkable condition inside with no obvious wear.
So next offseason,...I plan to do it right with a pan of solvent, brush, etc.
Lewmar says, you should do this full service-cleaing and re-lubing - each season.
How many do that?
If not, how often do your service winches?
