....surface prep. It was basically a thickened oil base paint, almost paste like texture, for filling imperfections in paint surface where the sub paint structure didn't need work. Just trowel it into a small ding as needed to fill, top coat and done. It was hardy, adhered extremely well, and easy to overcoat.
I still have two plugs for casting bronze parts back when I built Passage, one for a staysail foredeck fitting and one for the lower sprit cable. Actually these were made for when I redesigned the foredeck and changed the sail rig for those heavier winds in the lower Columbia. But I digress. I used the troweling compound a lot in making and smoothing those plugs and they are basically unchanged even after being rammed in sand for casting the parts and then kicking around in a box for nearly forty years. Sturdy stuff, that troweling compound.
I have since looked for it several times but now not even paint people seem to recollect it. Jesus, am I THAT old? Ring any bells in your memory...or anyone else's?
