Maybe it would be OK if it's 4" or 6" heavy wall (e.g. schedule 80). I use 2x4 pressure treated and even that's light. 2x6 or 2x10 would be better, but too heavy to carry. I try to avoid situations where I might have to tie to pilings or a sea wall, but sometimes it's necessary. Last time I used my fenderboards was 2 years ago, but I carry them anyway to be prepared.
