Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

Let's see...

We have slightly too much pitch with our prop as we can hit about 2800 rpm's of the 3000 max.
I know the boat is heavy (hey, we're a cruising boat....) last time we had her measured for rating we were in excess of 20,000 pounds without cruising gear! The graph I am referring to is on Yanmars site. It is essentially the same for the current version of the engine as our 10 year old version.
We don't keep the records you do but we have motored/motors ailed back from Bermuda a couple of times (with the boat in racing trim) and it seems that we almost always motor from the Cape Cod Canal to wherever we are heading in Maine (this year we had some great sailing on that trip) and in the end we use about what the chart says...

Bottom is sanded to a 360 grit finish and clean before we go...

Engine runs like a top and I pop tested injectors last year because I was curious... Exhaust elbow is inspected annually and clear.
