Speaking as one who lives in Virginia

it's simple. We keep our air clean. We don't fart and our sh*t doesn't stink.
But ethanol doesn't have anything to do with clean air. The combustion products are (mostly) the same as the aliphatic hydrocarbons that constitute gasoline (how about that for some high-rent words): carbon dioxide and water.
But . . . given the diesel burned to tend the crops around here, together with all the stuff they spray to ensure the crops and nothing else grows, I would hardly say our air is any cleaner than anyone else's.The whole ethanol thing in gasoline is a con, and an expensive one for those of us who own gas-powered motors that are poisoned by it.
