I know the dog did it! Your winch handle isn't all the way in the winch, Tom :^)))

In my electric self-tailers, if you don't lock the winch handle in, it pops the handle up.

Of course if you have the handle in, and you hit the switch when the winch turns, it LAUNCHES the handle out before it turns (to save your face, head, hands, body, etc.)
