I've seen a rash of violent pulling and tugging on the recoil starters by exasperated owners of small outboards, this season. Your idea of carrying an electric auxillary to your gas powered, is a smart option for as you say, the short trips that are likely the 90% of any dingy use. But it also gives you an option when the engine won't start.
We're seeing more Torqueedo's in our cruising area. Like Todd Dunn has showed us, many local boats, out for weekends or vacation, happily adapt to this quiet reliable propulsion.
