I shopped a Newport News Virginia boat years ago that used a 100w bulb. Owner said it's no problem. When he did sell the boat (to someone else) the survey turned up a cracked block.

Best solution IMHO is to get a proper engine compartment heater that has a thermostat set to turn on at colder than about 36-degrees and turn off at higher temps.
