I recently came across a pic of the sailboat, named "Laura," that my father and grandfather sailed on Narraganset Bay in the 1930s. I'm not sure of the design but my dad always talked fondly of her. By her looks she must have sailed beautifully. And no doubt a lot of sail to handle at times!
Sadly, she was lost in the great hurricane of 1938, perhaps the strongest storm to hit New England in 300 years according to Wikipedia. Narraganset Bay had tides 16 feet above normal. Block Island was almost competent awash. There wasn't a great deal of warning about the impending storm, not that they could necessarily do a lot about it. Reading about the storm is sadly interesting.
