Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

I came over here to read condolence messages about Jon. I'm glad to see so many familiar names...

from years ago, from the Cruising World BB to this one. It is nice to reconnect a bit.

My sailing days are over. I was working for Dutchman (sail flaking systems) in Norwalk. My boss's mother died. Martin asked me if I'd be interested in buying her boat. What is it, I asked? A 46 foot trawler. NO! I'm a sailor, not a stink potter. Long story short, I bought the boat, fixed it up, and my new wife and I cruised it from Westport, Connecticut to Albany New York and then down to Jacksonville.

Since cruising doesn't necessarily require a boat, we sold it and bought some land in the southern Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. We were amazed to learn that we lived among Sasquatches. Seriously. I was so amazed that I wrote a book about it.

I'm very sad that Jon is gone, but Jon lived his life on his terms, not that of some corporation. Jon did more living in 66 years than you or I could hope to do. Nicely done, Jon. Fair winds and following seas.

Safe travels, everyone. I do it in an RV now. Hey, I'm retired. I have to go to Florida in the winter. It is the law.
