I'm starting to get things put back together and ready for spring launch, that includes replacing the rest of the running rigging. I have three pieces left to go, the halyards and the in-haul on the main furler. The halyards are relatively small, 5/16" yacht braid and both run internally in the mast. In the past I have just cut off the eye splice on the old halyard and used a combination of Gorilla tape and a stitch of sail twine (as a safety backup to the tape) to attach the new halyard, using the old halyard as a messenger line of sorts to run the new one up and through the sheave. The mast is stepped btw.
I'm second guessing myself on this boat and think I may use the old halyard to run a small diameter line up and through, then tie off the new halyard to the small diameter line and use that as a messenger to run the new halyard up and through.
Any thoughts on one way or the other?
