      • When I've not used the whipping to tie the ends together, I have too often lost halyards.
        • yup, shortcuts can be very costly
        • VERY timely post, as I am now preparing to replace main, jib halyards. And I do NOT want mast down
  • I like a loop in the bitter end of the halyard.
    • That is called a reeving eye.
  • I have always just used electrical tape.
