IMHO 5200 should only be used as adhesive. Not as a sealant. This adds a significant hurdle.

It's good you cut out out so you can work on it in the shop. 5200 isn't very tolerant of heat and should losen its bond at close to 300+ degrees. I'd try using a torch to hear the metal in combination with mechanical approaches.
