three foot sections of 1/4 inch SS chain with SS carabiners that I drop over dock cleats when cruising because the cleats are usually all rusted up and wear out my dock line. The dock lines that I use in that situation have a large SS thimble spliced into them that holds the chain. When I use them, of course, I adjust them from on deck.
