Yeah, that's why I go up the mast with a climbing harness now instead of a West Marine bosun's chair (link) (pic)

The one I bought at WM several years ago was recently recalled by the maker (which wasn't WM) b/c, how did they phrase it, "The webbing construction on these items may fail and may not be strong enough to support a person and the D-ring may fail under stress, either of which could result in personal injury."

Personal injury, my ass --a wimpy way to try to shrug off responsibility and say that the bosun's chair might break open while you're sitting in it aloft LMAO! Even the stainless D-rings may fail....... Glad I just happened, by chance, to see the product recall notice. "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience of this voluntary recall"...terribly, terribly inconvenient to fall from up the mast...

I have much, much greater faith in the UIAA safety standards for climbing products...
