unfortunately people say 'mineral oil' and 'mineral spirits' and they're not the same thing.
I'd Call Ritchie and get compass oil. Why screw around?

It is on the shelf in west marine - next to the relative bearing grease..
I've personally used relative bearing grease..but I can't remember where I was going at the time. (nm)
