David,

There are alternatives. Victron makes some very nice units and they are reasonably priced. Neither the Link 10/20 series, nor the XBM, were ever made by Xantrex. They were re-badged products from other manufacturers. The XBM, which was also known as the Victron 501, was made by TBS Electronics in the Netherlands.

They make very good equipment. I have owned numerous Links and one XBM. My XBM has never even hiccuped. Every Link was a royal PITA with all the glitches & bugs. I don't recall who made the Link series for Xantrex but it was not TBS.

Xantrex finally dropped the vendor for the Link 10 / 20 etc. and replaced them with TBS who made the more reliable XBM. The new Link Lite & Link Pro are made by TBS as well and should be quite reliable, but of course Xantrex tech support basically stinks and they seem to know squat about the monitors..

Victron parted ways with TBS, perhaps due to the agreement in the US with Xantrex, and now has their own line of monitors that are available though Hamilton Marine & Jamestown Distributors.
