of my favorite places. I spent a good deal of time in Hope Town. The light house was a highlight of my stay. I met the keeper and got a tour of the light and what a view. I don't know if it's still the same but when I was there, the keeper split the watch with his son and they each wound the weight up once a night. The light floated in a bath of mercury which allowed the light to spin with very little resistance. The wheels around the whole thing just kept it aligned. That was a long time ago so I bet the old guy is gone by now. Maybe his son is still running it so if you get a chance, check it out. Shoot, it's most likely automated with solar panels...
