All kids learn differently -- and just don't fit the school "mold". Standardized tests and competitive academics and teacher-led classrooms are right for some and a complete turn-off for others. A kid like ESB's daughter is "easy" (compared to the "under-acheiver" or "ADD/ADHD" and all the variations and other social issues that come into play to limit academic performance). How wonderful for him/her!
Figure out what your kid's interests are and encourage them. All kids are hungry to learn and have a desire for success -- but they all have different styles. If you try to force a square peg into a round hole the peg will resist, feel like an uncomfortable failure and so will you.
...Just my humble opinion. There are many valid philosophies and your mileage may vary.
