Les, have a look at this

Something I posted in my reply to Dave below (this thread). It's a book called Saving Sailing...the author makes some interesting observations/points about how sailing has declined in the US, and advocates reviving it as an inter-generational past time (his words).

Have a listen to this quick interview with him...your point about introducing someone younger than 15 to sailing made me think of this:

As for me, for your informal poll below, I'm 43 and I've owned one boat in my life (current one), but have sailed others (growing up, a MacGregor Venture 22, and a Catalina 25, and have chartered other boats). My goal, my wife and my goal, I should say, is to introduce our 6 year old daughter to sailing via a very small boat (Optimist?) and, finances willing, take off cruising in a few years to give her a taste of life on the water, etc. Hayes (the author above) calls sailing the ultimate family sport, since everyone can participate...something I'd never really thought about (since I only ever went sailing with my Dad, sadly!) Now, as a parent, we sail all together (but I definitely enjoy singlehanding when I can).

You see, Les, I'm actively developing a market for your rebuilt boats...
