... last year, a few stairs missing but you can do it. It's the light House at Landrail / Bird Rock you won't be able to get to the top. Spent a couple weeks in the C&A and we were the only boat, that is where we will head straight away next week when we get back. One day, we went from Camel Point to Rokers with the Asym up, for 2 hours our boat speed exceeded our depth, not sure I have ever done that before. Don't you just love that anchorage at Datum Bay, my new favorite, we did not have any roll. The spear fishing at the reef between the anchorage and the light house is very, very good ! Your account of the Mayday is a little off ... not exactly "calm". Here is the story from a friend of mine who was there ... But still no excuse for them nailing that reef, what was the delivery Cap thinking, perhaps he wasn't ? When we get there next week, if my lobster tastes like diesel, I'll be pissed.
"Story for today. 62 foot Azmith motor yacht runs up on the north tip of South Hampton Reef at 0800. Calls mayday at 0845. Six dinghys take off and one turns back, seas 4-6 with wind chop on the nose for 7 miles. Once on the boat we find stern compartment flooded, bow flooded, and engine room filling fast. Tide is dropping but boat is rocking on the reef. We were able to fire up the crane and but their 14 foot tender over the side to settle the boat. Through radio relay by hand held we got back to Conception Anchorage to Rum Cay to Stanial Cay and the salvage company. Salvage company dispatched Robinson helicopter with pump, hose, gas, comms, and salvage agreement and one man to stay on boat. Helicopter hovered over the bow and we were able to off load pump etc. Salvage guy was dropped in water and swam over. Once we did all we could do we took off leaving the delivery capt, mate, and salvage guy on board. Plan is to send boat to arrive at first light to patch, pump and lift off reef and tow to Lauderdale."
