Good point, Jon...I've never seen charts like that with

highways on them

I guess I have this notion that going up Belle Isle Strait, dodging icebergs would be kinda cool And then once up there, of course, well, you might as well come on down the outside.

But you're right, in the end, sometimes it's great to get somewhere, even if you do have to rush and not see too much. Five months up to Glacier Bay, AK and back was way too rushed, but certainly better than nothing.

Now, here's another take on "rushed" cruising I'd like to experience --SV TAWODI went around the world via the great capes last year in eight months. With only ten stops en route (Cabo San Lucas, Easter Island, Puerto Williams, Chile; Ushuaia, Argentina; South Georgia Island; Tristan Da Cunha; Cape Town, SA; Hobart, Tasmania; Dunedin, NZ; Pitcairn Island), the very large majority of those eight months was spent moving, under sail...what an awesome experience (but probably downright stressful at times, too). This is the kind of "moving on" cruising I'd like to experience some day, long long passages. http://www.svtawodi.com/log/?page_id=6

Cheers,
Jud
