You don't need Apple's 'closed' design to access the web. You DO need Adobe's Flash if you currently wish to view a great deal of the video on the web regardless of the hardware (or OS) you're using to view it. Big difference, and it is the crux of Steve Job's recent blog and longer running beef with Adobe.
This quote, without some context is easy to skew. It doesn't, for example, relate how Flash is horribly inefficient, destroys battery life for mobile devices and has been rendered obsolete by more elegant (and open) code like HTML5. Adobe hasn't appreciably improved Flash for a long time and prior to truly mobile computing (smart phones) and you were plugged in most of the time it didn't matter. Now, with Droids, iPhones, et al, it does.
Don't like Apple's OS? You can buy something else.
Want to view the web? Adobe says you HAVE to have THEIR software.
