Are the RPM's measured at the end of the crank shaft or the end of the transmission?

Aside from the number revolutions being different it's affected by a gear ration, if it's at the crankshaft -- then it's on piston cycle per revolution?

Having said that, the calculation has little to do with the basic sizing of the supression system. It is informative in determining what happens if you don't shut the engine down right away.
