We had Autohelm (now Raymarine) below decks electro-mechanical drive unit. It worked pretty well in the Chesapeake for the 11 years we had the boat. The displays were the problem (LCD's were going out all the time); and, it had its' own "wind vane" to steer on the apparent wind because we had a B&G instrument package. It's best to integrate the instruments of the same manufacturer if you want to use some the features like sailing to the apparent wind. If you're sailing, that feature really is very convenient -- if it works.
So...what other instruments do you have on the boat?
