Rich - any idea how to spec a new belt?

My Yanmar belt is # 121252-42290
How would I know what to get for a Gates or Dayco belt? Can I simply take my belt in to an automotive place and let them find the equivalent Gates or Dayco belt?

- Is it common for a new belt to smoke a bit?
- It shouldn't smoke. It's slipping, or perhaps it's the wrong cross-section. Any shavings (black dust) in the area?
