I have a tension gauge and I don't use it ...

it's too complicated & difficult. I use Don Casey's technique ... I take an open box wrench, put it on the center ALT nut and turn it. If the belt slips, I tighten it just a little more until it doesn't. Seems to work fine for me, quick & easy. Cheers, John

- Is it common for a new belt to smoke a bit?
- It shouldn't smoke. It's slipping, or perhaps it's the wrong cross-section. Any shavings (black dust) in the area?
