If you don't have a sock a good method of dousing is what I've always referred to as a 'Bow and Go'.
Put a snap shackle at the tack with a lanyard on the pin. When you want to douse the spinnaker, pull the lanyard on the snap shackle allowing the tack to fly. let the sheet loose allowing the guy on the foredeck to grab it and pull it in. As the crew or guy on the foredeck pulls the spinnaker sheet down, the entire spinnaker will follow (pull the foot in quickly keeping it out of the water) . As the spinnaker is being taken on deck or bagged, the halyard is slowly released allowing the head to be pulled down under control without going into the water.
Budda bing-budda bang. Spinnaker is taken down under control.
We use an ATN sock but if there is a problem we just blow the tack to get it down'
