Wish I could get back up your way this summer, but it looks like just local sailing for me, perhaps just a trip out to Nantucket or Newport in September if I'm lucky.... I'm long overdue for a haulout as well, so that may occupy some of my time this summer...
You're gonna love the Bras 'd Or, I wish I could have spent more time in there, it's a wonderful cruising ground... One little out of the way spot I would recommend highly is the little town of Orangedale, on the NW side of the Great Bras 'd Or. In prevailing winds, you should be able to sail most of the way back in there, it was one of the nicest sails I had that whole summer, threading the way through the islands and channels leading into Orangedale...
the town is famous for the wonderful Railway Museum that is housed in the old station house, well worth a visit, but only open Wed thru Sat or Sun, if memory serves... Nice little town dock you'll likely have to yourself, a small general/hardware store, that's about it... Beautiful place...
Your time frame may not allow it, but if you do make it up to Souris on PEI, it's only another 50 miles or so out to the Iles de Madeleine... Absolutely wonderful place, if you just got into Entry Island, then over to Havre Aubert, you'd still get a very full impression of the place. Guaranteed, you'll see lots of whales on your way out there, and there's lots of stuff for the kids to do there, beautiful beaches and swimming, great food, good opportunity for them to practice their French. I just loved the Magdalens, enjoyed my time there every bit as much as Newfoundland that summer... The pic below is from the Magdalens, that's Entry Island in the distance... If you make it there, you've got to climb The Big Hill, probably the most spectacular 300' hill you will ever climb... (grin)
Have a great cruise, I'll be looking forward to hearing about it all, say Hi to Wendy for me...
