As is typical in Penobscot Bay, mornings can be windless. If you have no place to go, it's a good time to try to make the boat move under sail. This morning started just that way. With no boat wakes to rattle the rig(no boats), and with a little patience, I was able to get the slight breeze on the sails.
The breeze chose our direction, then lightly ironed back the telltales. First on the genoa, then on the main, then on the mizzen.
We, the boat and I, got just enough way on the rudder to build some speed. As the wind increased a bit with our speed, I was able to raise the mizzen staysail on the close reach for a bit more speed.
Going 3 knots in 5 knots is good sailing for me. I especially enjoy the sound.
