check valve or ?

After two weekends of working on the boat and using the icebox to keep the water and beer cold, I discovered that 10 pounds of ice = 10 pounds of icewater in the bilge. Althought the icebox drain hose disappears through an access hole in the locker under it, I'm positive that it ends up plumbed or rather draining, into the bilge. I have never liked these setups and it is on the short list to remedy.

It appears that the way to go is to "T" into the galley sink drain which would only require another hose sized hole between the two lockers. I suspect that much like our Catalina, this setup would allow water to backflow into the icebox drain on port tack. I was thinking that a check valve in that drain line would act as a backflow preventer, however I'm not sure if that trickle of drain water from the icebox would be enough pressure to get through the valve on the way to the overboard drain? The alternatives would be to add a regular on/off valve inline on that drain hose or to just deal with the back flow on port tack (least desireable).

Thoughts on the check valve idea?
