Alternator fuse
In Response To: Going through a nasty Nantucket Sound last week, I was recalling our last time through when we lost steering.

Glad all worked out well. Fire on a boat is real scary - no place to go! It's even worse on a submarine - the fire burns the same oxygen that you need to stay alive.
Definately put a fuse on the alternator output. The cable is sized for max alternator current - the fuse should be too. Size it to protect the cable.
