In Response To: Going through a nasty Nantucket Sound last week, I was recalling our last time through when we lost steering.

() I am not sure why there would be a 12 ga wire going to the alternator, that is too light for the B+ and too heavy for the I termial. The field is engerized by the regulator and only carries about 10 amps at most. 12 ga is also too heavy for a sense wire or a tach pickup.
