My thoughts on mounting it on the stern pole

My mast already has a lot going on, with inner forestay, babystay, running backs, etc. I hate to clutter it up even more with something that is likely to be a halyard catcher. A hoop would help but that is more than I want to get into. And again, the cleaner the better for ease of sail handling IMO.

I originally planned to go with the Plastimo Tube reflector high in the rig (it is low profile, easy to lash to the shroud, and not likely to snag) but then was disappointed to read a study that rates its performance pretty dismal. That's when I leaned towards the Tri-Lens.

My purpose (for now, anyway) is mainly coastal cruising when you're primarily concerned with being seen at relatively close range - say under 3 miles. I assume (though perhaps I'm wrong about that) that in that scenario high on the radar pole is not a significant loss vs high in the mast.

For offshore, I don't really count on ships bothering to keep radar watch, I feel like it's more me watching out for them. But admittedly, that's one time when the reflector high in the mast would be an advantage. Perhaps I'll fly the Davis on a flag halyard for passages.

Thanks for all the thoughts and discussion. It answered my basic question, which was that this wouldn't interfere with my own radar's performance.
