When sailing, what do you do with your engine transmission? Reverse/Neut/what?
Yanmar advise's to put it in reverse when sailing...

I put mine in reverse but I have folding prop
reverse to fold the prop, then neutral

Why would you leave the gear in reverse?
If you don't have a feathering or folding prop, then the prop will start to free wheel (unless you're going too slow).
My response was to a poster who has a folding prop.

Doesn't make any sense to me either. If in reverse it's stopped. Free-wheeling's got to be worse for the tranny.

Most Yanmars actually have a Kanzaki transmission...
I suppose they vary by engine model
