to be used as a backup, but have never used it. It's a strong attachment point -- being part of the attachment anchoring the forestay inside the boat along with the lower anchor point of the bob-stay, but it wasn't designed for the lateral stresses of anchoring and I've never wanted to test it. If I was on a guest mooring it might be a good backup but if I ever used it I'd keep it slack so it wouldn't come into use unless the primary to both bow cleats failed, as last resort.
On my home mooring I have a 3-point bridle, with metal-metal attachments (no chafe points) to the outer end of each cross-beam as primary, the boat doesn't swing much. If one of the primary were to fail I have a 3/4" conventional polyester-braid-over-nylon mooring pennant attached to a bow cleat of the center hull (similar to the Polydyne, but a knock-off sold by Hamilton Marine).
