We've used the unavailable one while cruising for the past 6 years. We've filled up anywhere there's water. We use the filter and back it up with appropriate bleach and have have never been ill from water taken on.
The new replacement appears to be about the same only better.
We run the filter through a dedicated faucet in the galley that is used for all the drinking/cooking water. (rest of the boat is only bleached) There's no reason to filter the shower water so we don't do it. The galley filtration filter has very good flow for about a month (depending on how bad the water we took on was) After a month it starts to slow down to the point where we replace it. We cleaned the old one with a sponge and were able to put it back in but it only lasted about 2 weeks between cleanings. After 3 cleanings we just replaced it. We'd probably get better (longer) performance if we filtered it with a non sub-micron filter as it entered the boat but we don't.
A lot of people go to extremes with the water system on their boats. Ultraviolet, Seagull, etc. From my experience, it's a bit overkill and not needed if you have one of these filters. (of course it's only from our experience.)
Just thought I post the link for anyone who has the standard filter cartridge and would like more protection that the standard non sub-micron filter system.
