on my return to FL from the Exumas a few years ago. Approaching the banks from Tongue of the Ocean I had a discrepancy between my charts and chartplotter. It was dark at 0230 and I hove to until daylight to make my approach on soundings with a good sun angle behind me. I had visions of sitting soaked and wet under a blanket in a BASRA rescue boat trying to apologize to the Admiral for losing our home because I was foolish. Very compelling way to justify heaving-to. (Not to mention, it's just plain good seamanship) No problem on my 41' cat. We fore-reached at about 1.5 kts and I put the Admiral on watch for traffic while I got a couple hours of sleep.
