Our Valiant 42 Mahalo heaves to perfectly with just a double reef main to leeward with her rudder trying to turn her to windward. She sits there 45* off the wind, drifting at about .25 knots downwind.
When it's really windy , we heave to with a triple reef main and aliitle of the staysail out and backwinded. Works everytime.
