We passed up on a Stevens 50 for that reason

The engine was shoehorned in and you needed to take off the exhaust manifold in order to swap out the starter. Of course everything is a tradeoff. In the case of the Stevens 50 there was one other issue, the Swan type bridgedeck. Between the two it was a deal breaker. Still wanted the boat but just couldn't justify those two shortcomings.

Our starter went out ( kind of ) the only way I could start the engine was to parallel the entire house bank of 900 amps into the starter. We now have a spare.

What boat do you have Ron?
