I know how a place can "grab" some people and then others won't like it at all. Funny how that is. Sometimes you want to check out "bad" places in the guidebooks just to see if they really *are* bad. And then too, one person's "convenient, lively, lots to do" is another's "ugh, too urban -- get me away from all these people!!" I'm not really sure where this guy is going to fall. I think in his non-boating life is he is absolutely a more minimalist, away-from-it-all type who would hate someplace like Miami or even Key West --- more of a Belize/outer reefs/maybe Placencia sort of guy; but then when you are first getting your cruising and sailing legs (and if your boat is not a super-independent, long-term bluewater cruising machine), maybe it's nice to ease into it. From that perspective "easy but with options" seems like a good plan to me.
So there are moorings that you can buy or rent and then have people look after your boat? Is this official (like a company owns the mooring and you hire them along with it), or is it just various moorings and you somehow hook up with an independent local to watch over your boat? (I've mostly anchored, and haven't cruised in The Bahamas at all, so I'm not familiar with how these typically work.) Is this something people would usually arrange in advance (say before heading over), or do you just show up and find one? I would anticipate a late-spring, early-summer arrival, and I take it winter is the high season, so maybe that's a good thing for availability.
Thanks again,
