In a situation where we are reaching with 20 knots of wind and want to take some sail in,,, I let out the sheet a foot or two and take in on the furling line with our trustee electric winch in the cockpit (way too much tension to do by hand) . let out 2 feet and pull in 2 feet on the furling line with the winch. The boat never slows down or changes direction. There's just less headsail out.
We do that quite a bit. I know,,, it's hard on both the sail and the equipment but it works so darn well with the Profurl. I don't think the furler would be in one piece with Torlon bearings.
We specifically choose a Profurl so we could do that. It was the on only furler that allowed you to do it. ( back in 2001 )
